49-Hour Film Competition in the DI!

Phil Collins wrote a fantastic article in the DI about the 49-Hour Film Competition. If you picked up a copy of the DI today, it’s the back page of the Diversions section.

Fire Jump

Here’s a video from Beanz. I think this sums it up best: “The most significant thing about him is, he just like made fire in the water, and he jumped right in the fire.”

The Transient in the DI

Phil Collins put together a great article on Chris Lukeman’s “The Transient” and IFV in Thursday’s Daily Illini. Right on the back page too. It’s available online at the DI’s website. Check it out!

First Meetings

If you missed the first meetings, have no fear. We went over a handout that explains the club a little more. If you want one, just email Joey at burgess2@uiuc.edu (or I guess it’s at illinois.edu now).

Also, we did a fun little script/directing activity. If you want a copy of the script because you missed the meeting, or you want something to film, or for any reason really, you can download a copy of it here.

Again, if you can’t make the meetings, be sure to keep an eye on the email and on the forums to find out what projects IFVers are up to and contact the directors/producers to get involved.

Quad Day

As you may know, Quad Day is coming up fast! Look for us on Sunday, August 24 and come by and say hi. Keep your fingers crossed for some good weather.

The Making of Star Guitar

I have been sick lately, so it’s been a romp on the Internets for me. I stumbled upon a really cool video showing Michael Gondry’s process of making Star Guitar. If you haven’t seen the music video, I’d highly recommend it (link to the music video). I enjoy the way Gondry represents time, space and the music on his quad-ruled pad and it’s always amazing to see how much work it takes to make something seem spontaneous.

Happy Summer!

Hi all! I hope everyone had a good end of the semester, and will have a great summer. If you’re in town, not only is Chambana a nice place to hang out during this time of year, but word had it that a lot of IFV related stuff will be going down. I will be in Seattle this summer, but Anne will be in town and she’ll be managing the club.

How It’s Made

There’s a nifty video that Alex Wayman directed me to on YouTube (where else?) Here, the video dissects the elements that went into creating a D-Day invasion scene for the BBC show Bloody Omaha.

Oh, and they only used three extras.

So, yes, it can be done…
